David Erhardt dies of burns
David Dale Erhardt, 29, son of Mr. And Mrs. Samuel O. Erhardt of 1560 N. Elm, died at 2:15 a.m. Thursday Feb 25, 1971 in University Hospitals in Iowa City of burns suffered in an industrial explosion on Feb. 17 1971.
Erhardt was burned over most of his body when a tank of sodium hypochlorite, a bleaching agent used in the manufacture of starch, exploded at the Cargill Inc, plant in Cedar Rapids where he was employed as a laboratory technician.
He was born in Ottumwa on Nov. 9th, 1941, and graduated from Ottumwa High School on June 1, 1959. He also graduated from Northeast Missouri State College at Kirksville and served in the U.S. Army
